中国人工智能诞生地

1956年夏,以麦卡锡、明斯基、罗切斯特和香农等为首的一批有着远见卓识的年轻科学家,聚在美国达特茅斯学院,首次提出了“人工智能”这一术语。同年,在钱学森先生的倡议下,中国科学院自动化研究所成立,点燃了中国人工智能发展的星星之火。六十多年来,一批批海内外优秀学者汇聚自动化研究所,前后开辟了控制工程、模式识别、复杂系统科学、集成电路分析与设计等研究方向,在视觉计算、语音识别、大数据情报分析整理、智能机器人、高性能数字信号处理器、脑网络组学、分子影像学等方向,造成了鲜明的学科优点和技术特点。

In the summer of 1956, a group of young visionary scientists headed by McCarthy, Minsky, Rochester and Shannon, gathered in the Dartmouth College in the United States, and proposed the term “Artificial Intelligence” for the first time. In the same year at Mr. Qian Xuesen’s initiative, Institue of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) was founded, which ignited the development of China’s Artificial Intelligence. For more than six decades, a group of outstanding scholars at home and abroad gathered at CASIA, and have set up research directions in Control Engineering, Pattern Recognition, Complex System Science, Integrated Circuit Analysis and Design, etc., and have formed a distinct academic advantages and technical characteristics in Visual Computing, Speech Recognition, Big Data Intelligence Analysis and Processing, Intelligence Robots, High Performance Digital Processor, Brainnetome, Molecular Imaging, etc.

据爱思惟尔SCOPUS数据显示,近五年来,自动化研究所是中国内地惟一一个在人工智能领域发表论文数量超过500篇的独立机构,引文影响力全球排名第七位。目前,自动化研究所已创建包括2个国家重点实验室,1个国家级工程技术中心在内的12个科研开发部门。围绕人工智能的产业应用,与地方共建12个院地协同创新研究院。同时,在类脑智能等前瞻领域,与海外共建中欧联合实验室等6个国际合做创新机构,拥有规模超过10亿元的两支产业基金,造成了应用基础研究、战略高技术研发以及产业化“三位一体”的良好格局。

According to the data released by Elsevier SCOPUS, CASIA is the only one independent institute among all the others in China that has published more than 500 papers from 2011 to 2015 in the field of AI, obtaining a rather high citation score which ranks the seventh in the world. Up till now, CASIA has established 12 research departments, including 2 National Laboratories, and 1 National Engineering & Technology Research Center. Focusing on the artificial intelligence industry applications, CASIA has built 12 jointly established research centers in cooperation with local governments. Meanwhile in frontier areas such as Brain-inspired Intelligence,CASIA also has involved in 6 jointly established laboratories in cooperation with international research institutions such as the Sino-European Laboratory of Informatics Automation, and Applied Mathematics (LIAMA). Furthermore, CASIA owns 2 industrial funds sum of more than 1 billion Yuan, thus CASIA has conducted applied basic research, high technology research, development and transfer.

我是1985年就到英国留学,在英国先后学习工做将近13年,固然了,回国工做也是我多年的愿望,特别是中科院“百人计划”这我的才计划,实际上给了我一个很是好的机会。

I went to study in England in 1985, and stayed there for nearly 13 years. Of course it’s my years of desire to work in my own country, especially when the Hundred Talents Plan of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), actually provided me an extremely good chance.

不少事情在咱们国内很容易开展起来,在那边就是很是缓慢,并且各类各样的限制条件。相对于效率这方面来讲,我以为比国外推动起来要容易得多,特别是跟这个疾病研究自己相关的,由于国内有很充分的资源。

A lot of things are easy to carry out in our country, but are rather hard to get progress abroad because of various limitations. In terms of efficiency, it’s much easier to move forward in China than in abroad, especially researches relating to disease, because we have abundant domestic resources.

当时从“百人计划”回国,从一个学生两个学生开始,到如今慢慢成为一个大概有几十我的的学生和老师的团队。

I came back home under the Hundred Talents Plan, and started with one to two students, now it has gradually became a team with dozens of students and scholars.

在自动化所总结下来就作了三件事:社会计算、平行智能、知识自动化。那很是巧合的是,没想到这正好是今天这个时代最热的技术,因此我以为自动化所在这个领域里面,有太多的施展空间。

I mainly did three things in the Institute of Automation: Social Computing, Parallel Intelligence, and the Knowledge Automation. Very coincidentally, they are the techniques of greatest demand today, so i believe there’s much space in this area for the Institute of Automation.

中国科学院自动化研究全部几个好处:一个它地处北京,是一个文化和政治学术的中心;第二个我以为自动化研究所包括中科院主要仍是给你们一个相对宽松的平台,使得你们可以作本身想作的事,机器人与神经科学的交叉,我就是突发奇想,看了文章以后就以为有意思,我就想开始作了;可能还有一点,就是自动化所人才辈出,因此使得你常常能够碰到很是聪明的人在一块儿进行相互的交流。

CASIA has several advantages: first of all it is located in Beijing, which is a cultural political and academic center; secondly CASIA and CAS provide a relatively independent research platform so we can do what we want to do, for example the idea of researching on the interdiscipline of robots and neuroscience was made on a whim after i read an article. I found it interesting and decided to set about doing it. Probably there’s a third advantage that CASIA is a galaxy of talents where you can meet and communicate with very intelligent people.


一花一世界,一叶一菩提

03年以后,咱们实验室就归入国家重点实验室的管理系列。再通过了九年的时间,到2013年就正式变成了国家重点实验室,因此实验室发展到今天,我以为是本身也是全体科研人员的心血的结果,一生作成这么一件事我也蛮开心。

After the year of 2003, our laboratory was brought into the national key laboratory management system. After another 9 years, in 2013 it officially became a national key laboratory, so what we have achieved today, in my opinion, is the fruit of my persistence and all the researchers’ efforts. I am quite satisfied to have such an achievement in a lifetime.

环境决定人生,平台决定高度

当时的选择如今来看应该是很是正确,(当时)我坚决果断地申请中科院的“百人计划”。如今中国启动了这个“脑计划”,其实就是(我)原来选择作的方向。去年发布了人类第一个全新的脑网络组图谱。这个能够说是整个脑图谱一百多年以来,第一次中国人在这个历史里面,中国人作出了这样一个贡献,去年也被评为“十大科技进展”,包括“十大医学进展”。我认为这个其实是我这个回国之后其中一个最主要的成果。

Seeing from now the choice i made was correct, i applied for the Hundred Talents Plan of CAS without hesitation at that time. Nowadays, China has launches China Brain Project, which is the research direction i’ve been dedicated to for all these years. Last year, we published the first brand new human Brainnetome Atlas. In the Brain Atlas research history of more than 100 years, it’s the first time that we Chinese made such a contribution. Last year, this progress was rated one of the “Ten Major Scientific and Technological Progress of China, 2016”, as well as one of the “Top Ten Medical Progress of China, 2016”. Actually i regard it as my research achievement of greatest importance since i came back in China.

为民造福,为国正名

如今你们都很关心关注,特别对咱们这我的口众多的国家,很是重要的一个学术方向,叫生物特征识别。这个方向自动化所应该说是,客观地讲,享有国际声誉。那么在这个过程当中,我也很高兴本身作出一番贡献,特别是在这个方向一个重要的分支,就是虹膜识别。将近20年过去了,如今回过头来看,咱们如今不管是从这个领域基础研究、关键技术的突破,仍是从实际应用到产业化的发展,咱们全链条整个虹膜识别创新链条,咱们均可以说,作出了令咱们感到自豪的工做。

Nowadays, people pay a lot of attention to Biometric Feature Recognition, which is a very important research field, especially for a populous country like China. Objectively speaking, CASIA possesses international fame in this area. I was also glad to make my own contribution in this process, especially one of the important branches that is called Iris Recognition. Looking back on the process of almost 20 years, we could declare that we have made distinct progress we are proud of in the development of a full innovation chain, including Iris Recognition basic research, high technology research, development and transfer.

咱们实验室的主要研究是高速视觉,主要进行高速视频流的处理算法的开发与实现。目前咱们已经实现了工做在一万两千帧每秒的超快速多目标的特征提取算法开发以及实现。

The research field of my laboratory is High-speed Vision. Nowadays we are focusing to develop and realize the processing algorithm of high-speed video streaming. Currently, we have achieved the development and realization of a feature extraction algorithm which is multi-targeted and works for 12000 frames per second.

个人研究领域是系统神经科学。咱们经过结合实验理论分析和计算建模等方法,但愿搞清楚大脑是怎么工做的。如今也正在和研究所其余同事一道,开展类脑计算和脑机接口方面的研究。简单来讲,咱们但愿经过从大脑的工做原理当中获得启发,帮助咱们设计新一代的类人的更增强大的人工智能系统。

My research field is System Neuroscience. We hope to find out how our brain work by experimental theory analysis and calculation modeling. Now we are also cooperating with other colleagues to carry out research in Brain-inspired Computing and Brain-computer Interface. To put it simple, we hope be inspired by the way our brain works to help us design a new generation of more powerful humanoid artificial intelligence system.

我所从事的是类脑智能的研究。这项研究它有两项意义:一方面他可以揭示人类智能的本质,那么另一方面类脑认知计算模型也将被咱们部署到不一样类型的机器人本体上,使其具备人类水平的人工智能。

I am engaged in Brain-inspired intelligence. The research has two meanings: on the one hand it reveals the essence of human intelligence, on the other hand, we will deploy Brain-inspired Cognition Computing Models to different types of robotic realities, making them human-level artificial intelligence.

个人研究方向是人工智能芯片。这是一个软硬结合的研究方向。咱们如今正在把大量的深度学习算法往移动芯片和嵌入式芯片里面进行移植。同时咱们也设计一些更加适合深度学习计算的新型的计算架构来适合如今这种人工智能的算法。

My research field is Artificial Intelligence Chips. This is an area combining both theory research and application technology. Presently we are transplanting a large number of deep learning algorithms to mobile chips and embedded chips. We also design some new computing architectures which are more suitable for deep learning computing to adapt to the present artificial intelligence algorithm.

我目前主要研究领域是肿瘤医学分子影像,具体来讲就是基于多模态分子影像技术进行肿瘤的载体靶向成像和治疗的研究。咱们团队目前也取得了系列的研究进展,包括在Nature子刊等国际期刊发表多篇高水平论文,极大提升了肿瘤的早期诊断和靶向治疗的效果。

My major research field is Tumor Medical Molecular Imaging. To be specific, it’s a research based on Multimodal Molecular Imaging for Tumor Vector Targeting Imaging and Treatment. Our team has also made a series of research progress, including publishing a number of high-level papers on Nature and other international journals, and greatly improves the early diagnosis of cancer and the effect of targeted therapy.

个人研究方向是多模态光学分子影像设备研制。主要是将光学分子成像、结构成像和代谢成像进行融合,获取肿瘤在分子细胞水平的信息。团队研发的设备不只支持团队和合做单位在肿瘤早诊方面开展研究工做,发表包括天然子刊等系列高水平论文,并且在术中分子影像导航方面开展了临床应用转化。团队是一个典型的多学科交叉研究团队,并且大部分具备海外留学背景。

My research subject is the development of Multimodal Optical Molecular Imaging Equipment. We combine Optical Molecular Imaging, Structural Imaging and Metabolic Imaging to get information on tumor cell at molecular level. The equipments we developed not only support our team and cooperating organizations in carrying out research in early diagnosis of tumor, publishing a series of high-level papers in Nature and other international journals, but also start clinical applications in operative molecular imaging navigation. Our team is a typically multidisciplinary research team. Most of our team members possess and overseas education background.
